Today at Kindermusik class Jake and Casey flew like birds. They have been studying bird songs, bird calls, and making bird nests in class the past few weeks. Their teacher Miss Stephanie asked them to come dressed as their favorite bird. Jake requested to be a northern red cardinal and Casey a rainbow woodpecker. She loves making up things all on her own. I took on this challenge and was able to do it using only materials I already had at home. I tossed around a few different ideas in my head of how to do it, and in the end decided to turn a party hat into a bird head. Late on Monday night (like 10pm late) I researched how to make a party hat and came up with a solution of cutting out 2 large circles and taping them together in a cone shape. Then I added the extra details like feathers, eyes and a beak. Ninety minutes later I had a respectable cardinal and a imginative woodpecker. I'm happy with how they turned out. I got great compliments from the kids this morning and they enjoyed showing them off to their friends at class. I realized that if we ever did a nature themed birthday party these would make great party hats.
