5 days of sickness

Since last Friday night Jake, Casey and I have been sick. Runny nose, hacking cough and fevers. We've all be laying around like slugs and not having much energy. My mom arrived Saturday afternoon (for a week long visit with us) just in time to nurture us back to health. I feel bad that we cannot do any fun things outside with her. But to pass the time she bought Jake and Casey some fun inside games and an activity. The games were favorites I mine when I was growing up: Hungry Hippos (I have a fascination with Hippos this may have been where it all started) and the second game Hi-Ho Cheerio. The activity is Play Foam (kind of like Floam). It's small foam balls that you can mold and shape into anything you want. It's not sticky and doesn't dry out. Kids didn't get better after waiting it out for 5 days and giving them multiple doses of pain reliever and cough medicine to help ease their symptoms. We took a trip to the Dr yesterday. Casey has inflamed tonsils and a little fluid in one ear. Jake has nasal congestion and a terrible cough. Both were put on Zithromax to kill the bug. They have been on meds for 2 days. So far no improvement but hopefully we'll see them getting better tomorrow. The night time has been rough with 2 kids waking up 2-3 times at night, but I've managed. Lots of laying down with each kid in their bed for 20-30 mins helping them fall back asleep through all the sniffling and coughing. Poor little things. :(

Tomorrow we drive my mom to the airport (at 7:30am). She'll fly to Chicago for a funeral (and back to Detroit the same day). We found out on Tuesday morning that my great grandmother Stella (my mom's grandma and Jake and Casey's great great grandma) passed away in her sleep. She lived a full life to 99 years old. This November was to be her 100 birthday. We were planning a big bash but she didn't make it. She was a spit-fire type of lady. She drove until she was 90 and lived on her own up until just a few years ago. For the past 4 few years she's been battling memory loss and didn't recognize her family. She was loved my many.

This weekend is going to be sunny and the 70s (the last 5 days had been cold/windy and in the mid 50s). I'm looking forward to having all of us healthy again and outside enjoying the Memorial Day weekend together.
