Spring Cleaning in the Garden
We have a line of trees and bushes at the back of our yard along a wooden fence. We have been so busy with many other landscaping projects the last two summers that we have not time to tackle this one (except for pulling out a few bushes and trees here and there). It was the end the of April and we already had a jungle of weeds growing back there. We had to do something about it and quickly. Last Monday evening we went out as a family and got dirty in the garden. Chris and I started the project and were making great progress, along came Jake and Casey wanting in on the fun too. We taught the kids how to pull the weed out with the root. Every time they pulled one out correctly they yelled "I got a root!!!" They thought it was like winning the lottery. As a family we weeded out the entire backyard. While pulling weeds, we also pulled up tons of worms. Jake and Casey collected worms in their sand buckets. In no time they were up to 10+ worms each! Eventually Chris and I said "enough" and asked them to leave the remaining worms in the dirt. I loved that we spent the evening together as a family getting our hands and feet dirty in our beautiful backyard.
