Yesterday was Jake's 5th birthday (June 1st). We had celebrated with his friends the Saturday afternoon (see post below), but I wanted to make his actual day a special one. After enjoying a homemade breakfast of a rocket shaped pancake and banana smoothie, I let him choose our activities for the day. Weather played a factor and we were unable to get outside (due to rain). Jake selected a bounce house. A warehouse facility where they blowup 4-5 large bouncers and let the kids run, jump and play all they desire. There was a large slide you climb up, slide you feet into a sleep bag type blanket and hang on as you fly down the slide, an obstacle course with ladders, slides, tunnels and mazes, a large pirate ship shaped slide/bouncer, all sports activity area with baseball, football, soccer etc.. and of course the large square bouncer for jumping delight. Mommy got in on the playtime fun too, it sure was easier to do those things when I was younger. We had the place almost all to ourselves (there was one other family there). They also had an air hockey table and Jake and I played 5 games together. He's getting good at it in a few years I better watch out. But I'm not worrying yet, because he still thinks it's fun to drop the puck into his own goal to see the score light up and retrieve the puck from the return slot. It wasn't until I told him that I score points each time he does that. He learned to stop doing that.
After the bounce house we refueled at McDonalds (Jake's choice) and then home for a much needed nap. All three of us snoozed in our beds (Mommy was fighting a headache from all the bouncing). When Daddy got home we went to the theater to see the movie UP. It was in 3-D and I wish had my camera with me, it was sweet to see both Jake and Casey sitting in the big theater chairs with the large 3-D glasses on. At one point during the movie when they were transitioning between scenes and it was all quiet, Casey announces to us: "I farted". I bet the entire theater heard it, Chris and I had to bite our tongues to stop from laughing so hard. The movie was super cute and exciting to watch. We gave Jake the choice to select a restaurant, but he was too excited about the presents waiting for him at home and wanted to get back. We came home and let him tear into the gifts from us (earlier in the morning we opened gifts from family and friends). We cooked a simple meal at home and finished the evening with another moon cake and ice cream. There are many things he's looking forward to now that he's 5: learning to tie his shoes, reading, learning to ice skate by himself, taking a shower, and riding a bike without training wheels. We cannot wait for all of these milestones in the coming year.
