Preschool Days (September)

I had good intentions to give you a weekly preschool update, but I have failed already and the school year just started. Boohoo. So instead I'll give a monthly review. Some of you may have already seen my earlier post about his first day of school. I'm happy to note that he's had much better days since then.
Gives Casey and I a big hug and kiss when we drop him off for school. He runs into his classroom and sits down on the carpet

Hangs up his own jacket and backpack each day

He learned to recognize and write upper and lowercase Aa, can draw and recognize a square, identify the color red, can recognize and write the number one.

When I pick him up he's excited and wants to give me a big hug

We talk all afternoon/evening about everything he did in school

Learning new songs such as: Samuel the square that's his name, he has four sides, that are just the same OR Cynthia the circle is very round, she has no sides, they cannot be found

His friends names are: Jack, Jack (there are 2 of them), Phillip, Jacob, Nathan

There are exactly 17 boys and 3 girls in his class. He is the last name on the class roster.

He makes an art project each day (using glue, markers, crayons and paint)

He has fun playing with trucks, race cars, trains, castle, blocks, cash register

He has not been selected to be the Special Person of the Day (his turn is on Oct. 29)

He can recite the Pledge of Allegiance

Had his first Show n Tell Day (see details below)

Last week Chris was able to join us to drop off and pick up Jake from school (he was working the afternoon shift). After participating in that, Chris said I was lucky to be able to do that each week and he was jealous.

For his Show in Tell Day the kids needed to bring in something that started with the letter "A". Jake thought hard and with a little help from mommy we selected his favorite dinosaur: Allosaurus. He's been in an intense dinosaur phase for over 3 weeks and wants to play with his dinosaurs every day, act out like different dinosaurs, learn about dinosaurs on the computer and watch dinosaur shows/movies. To help him show off his Allosaurus I thought that we could write down some fun facts about Allosaurus into a flip book. Jake and I jumped on the computer together and looked up some neat stuff. I wrote the facts into his book and he drew the illustrations. The finished project was perfect. He showed it off to Daddy, our neighbors and was excited to take it to school. I was told his teacher helped him read it on Show n Tell day. Here are the pages from the book.

On the pages are: A 5 year old Allosaurus, Mommy Allosaurus, Nest of eggs, Eggs Hatching, A Baby Allosaurus.

loving the dinosaur flip book and artwork. so cute!
enjoy the fact that he likes to talk about his day... in years to come you will likely get a shrug and "notin'" when you ask him about it! :)

even though watching them learn and get wings is so much fun and rewarding -- oh why do they have to grow up?
