On Stage

On Tuesday night we took a trip the zoo for Member Fest. Only zoo members we allowed and they had special events, activities and free stuff for the kids while you stroll through the zoo. We started off in the reptile house (ewwww, not a place I enjoy going into, but the kids LOVE it). Next we sat inside a small indoor auditorium to watch a Fairy Tale Show on stage. We didn't know what to expect. It wasn't very crowded so we found a seat in the 3rd row. The show was a mixture of many different Disney fairy tales and starred Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty & the Beast, Wicked Witch, a friendly Dragon and a few other characters. Both Jake and Casey watched wide-eyed. At one point all 4 of us were holding hands while the scary witch was on stage (she was freaky). At the end of the show they invited the kids to come on stage to sing a final song. I asked Casey, her response was no. I asked Jake his response was yes. Just behind us Snow White and Cinderalla came into the auditorium to help the kids on stage. When Jake stood in the aisle byo Snow White he had second thoughts and didn't want to go. But Casey changed her mind and said yes. We handed her off to the beautiful Snow White and waited for her to appear on stage (they took the kids backstage to go up the steps). It was an amazing feeling to watch our 2 (almost 3) year old standing on stage all by herself watching her princesses. Casey looked out into the auditorium to find a familiar face but she didn't see us. She was very brave and stood up there for the whole song. At the end each child received a crown. She wore her crown just like her princesses did and loved all of it. We were very proud of her.

Getting her crown.

Proudly wearing her new golden crown like a princess.

Next we headed to see the chimpanzees. They were very active and wanted to play in the trees. See my next post for a video of the chimps. We ended the evening with walking through the kangaroo exhibit. This is a new exhibit (probably 2 yrs old). Chris hasn't had the chance to go through it yet. You can walk freely with the kangaroos on a path that goes down the middle of their habitat area. They sometimes will jump through the path to get to the other side. We got very close to two of them. They were active as well (I wonder if the zookeepers fed all the animals a special dinner that night to put on a show for the members?). Normally when we see the kangaroos they are all sleeping in the grass.

We spent so much of our time looking at animals we didn't get to do the craft, inflatable slides, concert, puppet show etc.. But that's oka,y it was still a very nice evening at the zoo. Best thing about it was there were not any crowds. It was actually kind of empty. We could move around at out own pace and see what we wanted to see.
