Over the weekend we reached this summer's high and peaked at 97 degrees. It was humid as well and felt like over 100. To keep us cool we packed up the kids at 4pm (after their naps) and headed for Lake St. Clair. Upon arriving at the boat launch (30 minutes from our house) we sat in a line. There were 4 boats ahead of us and we had to wait until 4 boats exited the boat launch before we could get in. Sometimes this can take a long time (up to an hour) and sometimes not. We have a window of about 20-25 minutes of waiting before Jake and Casey start having meltdowns. If it goes past that mark we had planned to turn around and go back home. We lucked out and only waited about 10-15 minutes. Yeah!
We got the boat in and headed for our destination at Strawberry Island. It's not an island to walk on but it's a huge boat hang out area. When we arrived at around 5:15 pm we anchored our boat with the 100+ other anchored boats. The water is about waist deep with a sandy bottom. Jake was itching to get into the water so we got the swim diapers on the kids, water wings on Jake, floatie blown up for Casey and we all jumped in. Ooohhh! it was a touch cool but it felt so good with on our warm bodies from the hot day. Jake and Casey were excellent swimmers. Jake jumped off the boat into Dadddy's arms and swam back to ladder to start all over again. This went on for many consecutive jumps. Casey relaxed in her floatie and attempted to drink the lake water. All the swimming made us hungry. We setup our little table and got out our gourmet dinner of PB & J sandwiches, crackers and cheese and grapes. It was delicious. Casey munched on her favorite foods, peas and carrots, fruit snacks and finished off her meal with a baby food spaghetti dinner. Yum!
After dinner Chris and I lounged while the kids explored every nook and cranny of the boat. Their favorite spot is the drivers seat with all the neat buttons to push and steering wheel. For as much fun as we were having we had to get the kids back home to bed. We left Strawberry Island around 7 pm. Casey graciously slept in my arms on the boat ride back to the dock. This helps out tremendously so that I can lay her down on the boat cushions (still sleeping) and then help Chris tie up to the dock (it's a difficult job for Chris to do alone so if I can I try to give him a hand). So far the kids have done great with no tantrums or screaming fits. It's been a pleasant evening. We get home and try to get the kids in the tub for a quick rinse off of the lake water. Casey is coorperative but Jake is stalling and wants to dance around his potty chair. We get tired of this game and drag him to the tub. He starts a crying fit. I rinse him off and wash his hair (screaming still). Pull him out of the tub and wrap him in the towel and immediately he stops screaming. Okay got through that. At around 8:45 we get the kids tucked into their beds and kiss them goodnight. It was a beautiful evening on the water with just the four of us. We are so lucky to have 2 great kids who enjoy boating as much as we do. We hope to provide many more fun experiences like that for them in the future.

WOW! How you do it with two at tow! You are an amazing family! Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to see more! The weather out here is amazingly hot as well. Dean's been working tons at events around the area, and EAA has kept me busy with concerts here and there. I received the Packer Tickets last week so we are all set. The seats are all in one clump too. I was a little scared they wouldn't be, but hence, no worries!! November 19, you here yet??
